Rotavirus - Medicago

Extremely common and highly contagious, rotavirus is the most common cause of severe dehydrating diarrhea in young children aged 6 to 24 months. This viral infection of the digestive tract causes tens of thousands of hospitalizations and nearly 500,000 deaths each year, mainly in developing countries.

Each winter in temperate countries, rotavirus is responsible for most cases of gastroenteritis (inflammation of the stomach and intestines) in infants and young children. If not vaccinated, most children will experience at least one episode of rotavirus diarrhea before the age of 5.
