Passionate leader and highly polyvalent in biopharmaceutical product development, championing working as ONE team, Sonia is science, data, timeline, and quality-driven in her functions to contribute to people’s health.

Sonia joined Medicago in 2000 and has over 23 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.  She is Vice-President of Product Development, in charge of preclinical studies and analytical immunology, for the development of VLP vaccines in plants. Prior current functions, she was Head of Clinical Operations at Medicago and lead of Influenza, Norovirus, and Rotavirus vaccine development projects. Sonia has also been leading several cross-functional COVID-19 R&D projects from research stage to commercialisation. She is also a co-discoverer of a plant-based technology for production of virus-like particles influenza vaccines and of a technology to enhance stability of recombinant proteins in plants.  In her multiple leadership roles, she has enjoyed developing, coaching, motivating, empowering employees and teams, always in a caring ambiance of respect, positivism, and dynamism.

Sonia received her Ph.D. in Microbiology-Immunology from Laval University (Québec, Canada) and a post-doctoral fellow for 2 years in the vaccine industry.
