Why did you choose to work in human resources?

The word human is what made me want to go into human resources. I wanted to make in difference in people’s work life. I wanted to make it as pleasant as possible. Helping create a healthy, pleasant work environment for employees to enjoy every day is incredibly stimulating. In a way, working in human resources is putting yourself at the service of others. That’s what guides my everyday actions. I try to create added value for employees in every project I work on. In human resources, we have the power to make a real difference in people’s lives, and that’s exciting.

Why is mental health in the workplace an issue that’s being discussed more and more?

Mental health was an important topic long before the pandemic. But people weren’t that comfortable talking about it. Mental health issues were kept more private and even seen as taboo. The pandemic has lifted a veil on mental health. Everyone has to play their part – the organization, the managers, and the employees. As it’s a shared responsibility, it’s our duty to talk about it. Companies must provide staff with tools and train their managers so they can provide the best possible support to their team members.

What puts the Me in Medicago Jalna

Since joining Medicago, I have worked on a number of projects, including the implementation of health and wellness initiatives, like weekly active breaks, talks on nutrition and mental health, psychological health training for managers, and even a playlist that provides training tools. These initiatives helped create a form of awareness and open the discussion on the importance of mental health at Medicago.

Personally, I would love to see Quebec adopt a four-day workweek because it would allow for a better work-life balance. It’s a societal choice and positive effects have been seen in the northern European countries that have adopted it. I hope that one day this will be a commonplace measure. No one can be productive for more than 40 hours a week and you definitely perform better over shorter periods.

What values are most important in your daily life?

Without hesitation, cooperation and mutual help. That is why I always set aside a few minutes at the beginning of meetings to socialize with colleagues. This informal time improves the quality of life in the workplace because it allows us to connect with each other. It improves the team’s creativity and performance. It’s also a way to show respect in our interactions. By being available and willing to help others, you can build relationships and show that we are a team. We are all part of the same organization and we share a common mission. Helping each other is what can and will help us get better and go further.
